Will my car insurance cover damages in case my wheel fell off?

my wheel fell off

Will my car insurance cover damages to my car since my wheel fell off?
Thanks for looking. I was about to take off and go run some errands. I then noticed a noise coming from my front driver wheel. I decided to turn back home, and after 1/2 a mile I was home, and was about to turn to park when my front driver wheel rolls of my car. My car just dropped to its disc, and I probably kept going for about 4-5 feet. There is at least a couple grand in body damage that I can see. Will my auto insurance cover this even though Im the one who last changed the tires on my car? Can there be damages I cant see if it fell on the disc? Thank you

OK, this is a fun question – fun, in that the answer is NOT obvious to me, so I pulled out my handy dandy book of insurance forms.

(Disclaimer) I’m reading a standard ISO auto form – your policy might NOT be written on this form.

On the one hand, collision is defined as impact with another vehicle or object. The wheel itself, didn’t impact anything. The body impacted the road, I’m assuming, as did the axle, etc. Under exclusions, it includes mechanical failure, but words it as “damage due to and confined to”.

On the other hand, when you hit a pothole, that’s impacting the road, and it’s covered under collision. Also, the damage wasn’t confined to the mechanical failure, but included damage to the body and underside, when the car hit the ground.

So, I’m going to say, in my opinion it would be covered, subject to your collision deductible – and would be surchargable. I’m also going to say, any damage or defect to the nuts that kept the wheel on is NOT going to be covered. And they’ll depreciate the disc for milage. Read more »

Should I continue my car insurance even If I am not staying in US?

Should I get continue my car insurance even If I am not staying in US?
I am temporarlity out of US from Auguest until end of sept 2008 visiting my home country. My auto insurnance is with farmers and my six month insurance period ends on Sept 4th 2008.

Is it advisable to get the insurance for the rest of the period in september? (I wont be present in US)

Or I can take a new auto insurance after reaching the US in the first week of october?

In SC if you do not have insurance on your car, you have to turn in your license plate. If you do not they will cancel and then charge you $400.00 fee to renew your plate.
Best to just renew the insurance.

You’ll probably be better off keeping it in force auto insurance. If you don’t, there’s no guarantee what your premium will be when you get a new policy, plus many states require that the license plate(s) be turned in if you drop liability coverage, meaning 2 trips to the DMV for you and possibly other fees to unregister and then re-register the car.  If you have comprehensive coverage, you can drop collision and liability and carry only the comprehensive to cover fireI would just continue the insurance. If you drop the insurance now and then come back to the states some companies will not insure you if you do not already have insurance in effect. It is only 26 days that you won’t be using auto insurance., theft, vadalism, etc. To do this though you’d probably still have to turn in the plates, but you’d get to keep the same rates that are shown on your renewal once you put the rest of the coverage back on. Auto Insurance Tips

You have come to the right place, if you are looking for information on how to get car insurance for your new or pre-owned auto or if you just want to get a better auto insurance quote. Not all auto insurance companies have the same policy coverage, pricing or terms.

If you have an existing policy from your current insurer, pull it out or request they send you a copy. Read it through carefully and highlight the most important coverage items to identify areas where you may need decreased or additional coverage.

To get the best car insurance policy at the cheapest rate, you will have to do a little research; most auto insurance companies offer online quotes, this is the easiest way to do comparisons.

Deductible in the event of a claim – Increasing your deductible can lower your insurance quote by hundreds of dollars.

Total loss – Coverage in the event your automobile is stolen or totaled in an accident.

Property Damage Liability – This coverage is important in the event your vehicle causes damage to someone else’s property.

How much does high risk auto insurance cost?
As comprehensive as DialM4Speed’s answer was I had something to add.

I am a licensed agent in 46 US states and unfortuanately there is no good way to answer your question. The reason is that you can’t group all high-risk insurance together.

In my buiness I have seen “High Risk” insurance auto insurance run anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars and there is going be no way to tell without doing some legwork.

It is going to depend on things like what is on your driving record, what zip code you live in, what you are driving, what kind of coverage you have, your credit score, and a LOT of other things.

So call around, get 50/100/50 liability coverage, get a bunch of different quotes, take the cheapest one. Then in six months call all the same companies, auto insurance tell them you have had continuous auto insurance insurance for 6 months at 50/100/50 and they will give you much better prices.

What you are going to do is to start out getting quotes from at least three different companies. I would suggest Geico, Esurance, & Progressive insurance. Make sure you are 100% honest about what is on your driving record, that you give all the companies the same information, and that you get a quote on the same exact insurance everywhere you go.

My suggestion for liability insurance is 50/100/50 ($50,000 per person’s injuries/ $100,000 per accident for injuries/ $50,000 for property damage) it doesn’t run too expensive compared to auto insurance state minimum coverage and when you shop around for insurance in six months you will get much better prices.

How does instant car insurance work? It isn’t very difficult to figure how instant car insurance could work. All you need to do is provide details like driver’s identification number, existing insurance declarations page, the zip code of the area in which you drive and past driving record information. This can be done online which saves you time that is usually wasted dealing with an agent or waiting for the right agent. You can complete the document submission within minutes whenever you have time, so that your daily work isn’t really perturbed by appointments given to insurance agents. Read more »
